Homeless Floating Shelter (Jan-Feb 2012)

As the cold weather arrives, our thoughts are again with the vulnerable and homeless people in our community.  Along with other Croydon churches in the borough we will be offering an evening meal, a warm bed plus breakfast and a packed lunch the following morning.  But most importantly it is a safe and inviting place where up to 14 of our guests can take refuge during the winter months, and experience some Christian love and care within our church network.  Our 'slot' (shared with Christchurch) is Wednesday night/Thursday mornings, and if you would like to know more or be a part of praying for specific issues, please contact David Warner - david@davuka.co.uk

The Link

The Link is a weekly drop-in for the homeless based at East Croydon United Reformed Church, Addiscombe Grove, Croydon. It opens 52 weeks of the year from 7pm - 9.30pm each Thursday evening and aims to proved friendship and a safe place to meet for marginalised and vulnerable adults. We provide light refreshments, games, newspapers and a caring community to belong to.  Contact Pauline Miller for more info.

Bags for Life - Our Christmas present to the West Croydon Refugee Centre - Dec 2011

Following our annual tradition, Purley Baptist members again rose to the challenge as we delivered some 70+ shopping bags full of useful items to the Refugee centre at West Croydon Baptist.  This was in time for the christmas party attended by asylum seekers - mainly from war torn Africa and the middle East fleeing persecution, oppression and discrimination.

The centre is supported by Croydon churches and provides food, childrens toys, counselling and advice, as well as some household goods for the visitors on Tuesday mornings.  For more information call 020 8665 0696

Other bags will be taken to "The Link" - the drop-in centre founded by PBC members for those who have previously been guests at the floating homeless shelter but now have some form of accommodation. This allows us to maintain contact with these vulnerable people in our society and gives them a safe environment to meet each Thursday evening.

Thank you to all who donated to this annual appeal - your genorosity is appreciated by many!
