Winter can be a tough time for those living on the streets of Croydon & Purley. When local churches started talking about providing a hot meal and a warm place to sleep, Purley Baptist Church opened its doors. The rest, they say, is history; and Night Shelter was born.
Every winter we take in guests. A team of volunteers cook, wash-up, entertain and provide a listening ear where needed. This is church at its best.
According to Pauline Miller, one of the key co-ordinators at PBC: Night Shelter's function is to provide a safe environment and a place to build community amongst homeless people. It's a place of belonging, and gives a sense of value and of being loved.
